SGA: The Seed

Been away, back again. I actually forgot that there was a new episode this morning. Lying on the sofa, watching SGA = \o/

Oh, I thoroughly enjoyed that. What a delight.

A wraith ship growing through Atlantis’ infrastructure. Biomechanical polysaccharides hardening into a chitonous exoskeleton capable of withstanding the pressures of space... So what normally provides the brain – juvenile queen? Male from high up in the hierarchy? What would happen if an Ancient got converted? I love the science on Stargate (snort*). I am reminded of Anne McCaffrey’s ships (that sing).

Woolsey. The scene in the conference room, where he neatly dissected the mission’s issues into objectives, cause and effect, topped by efficient use of resources – that was realistic, that was actually managing. Okay, the Michael thing’s going to bite him on his bum because it is Stargate. But Woolsey’s character as an efficient manager from a bureaucratic background was neatly displayed. This segued into Sheppard walking all over him and he basically showing his belly because he’s a fish out of water/in at the deep end (let’s mix metaphors). I hope that they continue this learning/listening rather than switching to the easier to write Sheppard et al and OTT Woolsey butting heads.

I liked the nods to previous episodes.

Teyla and Zelenka backed up by Marines with big guns… looking good. Oh, they’re going in Jefferies tubes access corridors… Splitting up… not wise. Zelenka, you IDIOT, – all the people with guns are heading off in the opposite direction. This is going to end in tears. HA.

H/C galore. Okay, I’m a person of simple tastes:
        Zelenka dunched on the head – good;
       Ronon bruised larynx (with added snarkasm that it’s not going to make any difference to his communication skills) -- good;
       Ronon got to tie John up in the infirmary – he looked very practiced at that...
       John seizing after Carson once again tries an untested antiviral (phage – snort*; I love the science on Stargate);
       The team standing around (albeit minus Teyla) – my h/c is complete;
       John waking up on the gurney -- he slept after a seizure -- leaping to his feet and taking over, and
       John being gut pierced by a biomechanical tentacle. No wonder John's manorexic (snort*) the poor guy keeps getting almost eviscerated – he must be really sick of eating mashed bananas.

One question, though, why didn't they simply inject a tentacle with the phage? They could have done this even before trying the serum on John. I mean it was all part of the same system... Okay, the dramatic tension would have been lower. But, hey, they should have tried, even if the growing ship was capable of autotomy. nitpick… nitpick

Yep, going to watch this one again.

(* three snorts; pretty low on the snort assessment scale)
