(no subject)

Yesterday was sort of semi-shit. I went around to check on an elderly neighbour/friend-of-family (she was fine), but in chatting she says,

“I didn’t want to tell your mam, ‘cos she’ll get upset, but [redacted] has prostate cancer.”

Conversations continues. She’s worried, I tell her about treatment options. And it’s good that they caught it fast.

“Oh, and the reason that {also redacted} is stepping back from church is he has prostate cancer, your mam doesn’t know. She gets upset cos her husband died."

Funnily enough, I know.

Goes to check on my mam after seeing Auntie, and she tells me about someone else who has prostate cancer, and gets a little upset.

I’m soothing everyone, which is fine. I get that they’re upset.

But why does no one get that my DAD died of prostate cancer, and I fucking miss him every day.

Fuck cancer.

ao3 coding question

is there a coding/search string you can use to find a Ao3 user's other comments on stories across the platform?

i got an uncharitable comment, and they seem to be a legitimate Ao3 member, and before I respond (or not as the case may be, more than likely), I thought to see if this is something that they do.

I had a thought and have put it here for a discussion

Fandom Content Posting Strike… Break? A Fandom Experiment.

So I have seen A LOT of posts where it is pointed out if people want content they should ideally support and encourage content creators (writers, artists, viders etc etc).

Note, of course, that fandom content creators are also consumers.

To be fair you cannae make people comment/engage, and neither can you make folk create and post. And to be honest, folk still create and throw content into fannish spaces, so people don’t need to comment/engage to ensure content.

But folk don’t need to post. Folk post their content for a lot of reasons as a final hurdle, to engage with people….

Why not organise a fandom-wide posting break, a day, a weekend or even a week, where no new content is posted? Obvs. create to your heart’s content, but no posting. Consume old/previously posted stuff. This gives folk a break, for example, AO3 volunteers can take a breath, archive archivists can relax, hosting media can see how core fandom content is to their franchises.

Maybe we’ll learn something?

Although based on the recent ao3 maintenance, the results would be crying. *woes*

I just keep thinking about the Untamed series. And then, where next? Presumably, there's equally good stuff to watch that isn't available on the spoonfed 'normal' tv. Normal as in what you're used to, and everyone's normal and actually valid and different.

where do you start?

Episode 50

Okay, I did get sushi and prosecco….

I was geared up to a massive fight with Wei Wuxian dying as he saved everyone else. Honestly, I had written it in my head. I can visualise it.

Okay, it was amazing, 50 episodes have kept me invested.

But I have questions! Please tell me that Lan Wangji returned to Wei Wuxian as he stood on the side of the mountain playing his flute after that drawn out goodbye? It didn’t sounds like Lan Wangji.

Poor Zewu jun -- he cared so much.

So I called Nie Huai Sang correctly as a mastermind. Although his motivation wasn’t evil per se, but to avenge his brother, which was pretty neat. Manipulation as a skill set.

But what happened with the Ying Iron and the blade in the papier-mâché tortoise?

What happened when Wei Wuxian was cast into the burial mounds?

Was Wei Wuxian reincarnated or was he a revenant that took over (possessed) Mo?

Was Jin Guang Yao always the puppetmaster or was there several puppet masters?

How many pieces of Ying Iron were there really?

When did Ying Iron become a Stygian tiger amulet?

What was the craic with the animated statue?

I have questions and no answers!

Epn 48-49

Right…… that was intense and torturous. And I am thinking about watching ep 50… but I don’t think that I can and sleep tonight.

I... uhm... (´・_・`)

do I keep it for friday night and treat myself to some sushi? I might need some sushi and a glass of wine when I watch the last ep.

untamed post 29 -- who is the mastermind?

If there is a mastermind… who can it be?

If… if’s big brother is the mastermind behind the scenes, I don’t understand his motivation—therefore I don’t think that Zewu jun is the mastermind. (I’ll admit to being biased and not objective.)

I do understand Lt.exFan motivation [jealously, vengeance, pain of being bullied and abandonment], but he’s not the mastermind.

Not Jiang Cheng, he’s too emotional and stupid.

Lan Wangji’s uncle [he’s a wanker]?

Red Blade Master’s pretty much conclusively dead – he seemed too stoic and straight-laced in life to be an evil mastermind.

Lt. ex-Fan clan’s sycophants are sycophants apart from the Leader who was cast out of the Lan clan, who casts the evil spells and was really deft with the qin music.

Wen Qing if she’s not dead? But she was lovely. And can’t see a woman being given a role with any agency.

We’re running out of suspects. Unless it’s a minor character who is going to be punted to the forefront.

Okay…. Red Blade Master’s brother? The prevaricator with the fan he knows more than he lets on…

Ep 46 (or 47, pretty sure 46]

Ah – so much becomes clear! Wei Wuxian did give Jiang Cheng his golden core. I was duped *shakes head*

Lan Wangji and Wei Wuxian were glorious.

Ep 43-44-45 [stopped half way through?]

Okay… that was lovely. Healing, music and ‘thank yous’ and partnership.

I am however concerned that Lan Wangji’s big brother exposing himself to the music is a bad, bad idea.

Big brother goes to check on Lt. exFan. He’s been a stanch supporter of Lt. exFan…

Lan Wangji Wei Wuxian go back to the Forbidden Burial Mounds place… and the Baby!Cultivators are there. And Now Zombies and ALL of the Clan leaders.

Lt ExFan has been injured and Big Brother is looking after him. Why aren’t Lan Wangji and Wei Wuxian worried – this seems suspicious.

Fickle people are fickle… There’s a Qin subset that uses the Lan music—twisted—to program people. And Big brother didn’t realise that this was happening? /ᐠ。‸。ᐟ\

WOW – the magic is much more in your face now. Teleporting and magic mirrors.

Belatedly, I’ve figured out that they are cultivating spiritual energy. I am very slow.

ALSO YUAN!!!!! Lan Wangji adopted him ☆(❁‿❁)☆

Ep41-42

Wey, called that! 42 was a VERY interesting episode. Everything I suspected about Lieutenant exFan was true

I am slightly concerned that Lan Wangji’s big brother has been compromised. Something there, I think.

So Senior Sister died, Wen Qing died and now Lieutenant ex-Fan (evilmastermind?) wife died, doesn’t pay to be a women in any form of storytelling, does it.

Other stuff happened as well, but everyone is being stupid and hateful.

Ep 39-40

Very sad and perplexing… So the psychopath liked the Blind Taoist (frostfire’s handler?) And the psychopath killed the clans because he broke his finger?

Who was in the coffin? Who had been beheaded and was wreathed in smoke? I kind of think that they were referring to the Red Blade Master of the Fan clan, but he died of the Holes Curse at the Jins’ enclave in front of people.

Okay, Lan Wangji’s big brother, Lan Wangi and Wei Wuxian had a long discussion about potential perpetrators and proof – but I don’t know who they were talking about.

Wei WUxian’s mask is magical—it makes him look like other people. Thank you! I was wondering why people weren’t recognising him. ‘Cos that mask doesn’t hide shit.

Is Sui--? The most intelligent of the baby!cultivators—Yuan?

HAH! Called it! \o/ Lieutenant exFan is keeping his exFan Master’s head in his sanctum.

I can only continue to watch and hope that I will understand what I am missing, even if now all I know is I cannot see it other than register the eddies and vortices of confusion.

Ep 36-37-38? I’m not too sure, I’ve started watching this like a movie.

The tone of the series has changed. It’s more serial (?) In the media res section it felt complete; there was a sense (trainwreck on the horizon, anyone?). Now the series feels open -- Sort of Nikon verses Canon.

Wen Ning!

I’m not entirely sure what it happening. Lan Wangji and We Wuxian are looking for what the blade is pointing at. The Ghost/who may also be the flute player at Nevernight is also after this-Ying Iron (5th bit) or Stygian Tiger Amulet (which may be made of Ying Iron). So why didn’t the Ghost find the YFe-STA while Wei Wuxian was in reincarnation-limbo—Wei Wuxian had it with him?

They’re running around coffin town (with the cadre of baby!cultivators). There’s a mystery who’s making the revenants AND the storyline of the Blind Taoist, the ‘blind’ girl, the very attractive bad guy (dearGod, he’s attractive) and Blind Taoist’s friend

Okay, Blind Taoist=demigod(?), because the subtitles seemed to state that he came down from the same mountain where Wei Wuxian’s grandmother/mentor lives, and walks the world to do good?
It’s all very tragic, but hey it’s the Untamed.

The Ghost… moves like a Lan and/or Jin. I’m still thinking Lieutenant exFanCLan but still worried it’s Lan Wangji’s big brother.

Ep 35

¯\_(ツ)_/¯

When is a blade not a sword? When it is a fan?

There was a lot of exposition in the chapter sitting in a room and I really don’t know--without flashback—to whom they are referring to.

Lan Wangji still has a piece of Yin Iron?

Looks like red blade master was killed by the hundred (thousand?) holes curse. Looking at you Lieutenant ex-Fan, who was conveniently there….

Okay, this is really weird, are the characters swapping faces? When Lan Wangji and Wei Wuxian caught up with their childhood friend (Now leader of the Fan Clan) who was protecting the tomb of blades, sometimes he looked like Jiang Cheng in one repeated angle.

Some absolutely glorious Lan Wangji and Wei Wuxian moments.

It has never been so apparent that my ignorance is a significant part of my not understanding.

Ep 33-34

Okay, it was media res. Why is no one recognising Wu Wexian—magic? Senior sister’s son…. The tone of the series has changed, they’ve gone a little comedic, which is strange. And how does this mystery with the sword link to the Yin Iron and the Stygian Tiger Amulet? I have watched every episode and concentrated but I feel like the version I have on amazon prime is badly edited :-(

People think Wen Ning isn’t dead?

Episode 32

No. simply. No. this isn’t fair. Watching this series is traumatic

Wen Ning and Wen Qing are dead? Their ashes are cast into the air? And the other Wen? Yuan’s Grandmother--hanged! Why did they ALL go to the Jins? I thought that Wen Ning and Wen Qing were sacrificing themselves for their clan and Wei Wuxian.

And why the flyin’ fuck did Senior Sister go to Nevernight? How the hell did she get there from the Jin Clan’s home?

This hurts.

Who is the other flautist? First thought is that it’s Lieutenant ex-fan [Childe Jin also??], but that is too obvious. It’s not Lan Wangji’s big brother is it?

I can imagine how intense fandom was when this ep was televised. I mean, the fandom must have been seething. I guess, they still probably are. It’s a little lonely watching this on your tod. I can only imagine what my neighbours were thinking when I yelled at the telly… more than once.
I was right when I said that this was going to be a trainwreck. Honestly, when they were arguing in Nevernight, and then emotions get in the way. And it’s all innuendo and false assumptions and….

It’s too sad :-(

Where is Little Yuan?

Wen Qing and Wen Ning and the others went to the capital to sacrifice themselves
(⊙…⊙)

Who cursed Childe Jin’s cousin/brother with the Hundred Holes? Lieutenant exFan, I’m looking at uou.
