flist: manga question

Hi flist,

any recommendations for a 14 year old, sensitive boy, who is just starting to get into manga? I appreciate that he'll delve in and find stuff any rate, but recs would be good -- graphic art and tv/movies -- but also things to avoid?

He's super excited about the new world he's found.

not sure if he can find it, Touch by Mitsuru Adachi is wonderful. it's a great high school story of love and grief. a warning though, major character death about 1/3 of the way through the series.

I'm not super knowledgeable in this regard, but I would rec "Fullmetal Alchemist". Yes, it deals with some heavy stuff (war, war crimes, death and so on) but also has some funny moments and I love the representation of disabilities and women (as in, they are not half naked/there to objectified/pawed by male characters and so on like in some other stuff) in it. :)

Other than that - I've read a few parts of "Blue Exorcist" and watched the anime when it's been on Netflix and I really liked it.

I've also read some parts of "D-Grayman" and liked it but can't currently remember why I stopped. *scratches head*

Some people really love "Black Butler" but I couldn't get into it. Same with "Death Note".
